Shepards Bush Garden

London

A new front and back garden creates an urban oasis, with sustainability and versatility at its heart.

The brief was to connect the house to the garden, and to recover the garden from a previous design to meet their needs.
Three separate areas were formed, a dining space near the house, a larger seating area positioned in the sunniest part of the garden, and a quiet a reflective seating area to escape to in solitude.

The new planting of the garden will bring colour, texture and form throughout the seasons for the clients to enjoy. Key plants include Melianthus major, Agapanthus ‘Moonlight Star’ and Hakonechloa macra, with Chimonanthus praecox bringing scent and flower in the winter months. Please note that the photographs above have been taken just after planting the project, the plants will grow and establish quickly over the coming seasons.

Before

Clay pavers were combined with existing Clay setts from the original garden. By bringing them into a contemporary garden, we were able to give them a new feel and aesthetic, as well as a new purpose. All construction was specified to reduce the use of concrete in the garden, and all surfaces are water permeable to aid drainage.

Hand-woven willow walls were constructed to form the journey between these spaces and act as a sculptural element within the garden. A large curved panel also conceals an air source heat pump that services the house.
